Introducing our 2021 expert webinar series

Consumer interest in renewable energy is growing - ‘clean power’ sales doubled between 2010 and 2014, and then doubled again between 2014 and 2019. In 2019, renewable energy consumption grew to a record-breaking 11% of total US energy consumption - a record that has now been hit for four consecutive years. Morgan Stanley shared that renewables buildout is driving significant growth for utilities.

Meanwhile in the Midwest, incentives to use renewable energy set at state-level remains low compared to other areas in the US, such as the West- and East Coast. The absence of incentives and targets results in a low-awareness level of the benefits and opportunities consumers have when using renewable energy. As of December 2020, Minnesota and Michigan are the only two Midwestern states to implemented a statutory target and an executive target respectively to combat greenhouse gas emissions and to become carbon neutral by 2050.

With Michigan only signing this executive target in 2020, driven by concerns on rising temperatures and the necessity to slow down climate change, combined with the nation-wide growth of renewable energy usage, now is the time to get together and understand how, why and when the Midwest can join the renewable energy revolution.

The NetZeroBuild Summit webinar series 2021 will run in February through April 2021 to bring together the Midwest’s key stakeholders to discuss steps needed to make change happen. Each will feature a number of local experts, including leaders from the construction, architecture, and sustainability sectors.

Full details will be released in January 2021, including the times and dates of each webinar event, the topics, plus some of our headline participants.

Agenda outline

Join a thought-provoking discussion on NZB projects

As we move towards a future where sustainability and rising energy prices play an increasingly important role in the design, development and construction of our built environment, the concept of net zero buildings (NZBs) is gaining momentum in the architectural industry, the wider material supply chain and of course, with facility owners (e.g. manufacturing OEMs). The agenda of the NetZeroBuild summit has been designed to facilitate thought-provoking discussion between all these relevant stakeholders and provide the knowledge and contacts to deliver innovative and economically practical NZB projects.

As symbolized by the creation of the new office of climate and energy, this is a watershed moment for the state Michigan and the list of ambitious renewable energy and energy efficiency projects continues to grow. Smarter Shows is excited to host a dedicated networking forum for the building community to discuss this radical and powerful concept.
